Summer is here, and my kids are reading, well the younger two at least. And through them I am reliving some fun moments in books that I read as a child myself. We love sharing laughs over a Dr. Suess book or even get as intricate details from a Harry Potter book with my tween. Reading is so very important and I am so pleased to share that with my kids. So today I bring you the second in a set of reading tips for you to share with your kids.

HarperCollins says…

“Encourage your children to read books about people and who are different from them.   In fact, Katherine Paterson, recently named National Ambassador for Children’s Literature by the Library Of Congress and author of many award-winning books for children, including Bridge to Terabithia says, “I began reading on my own very early because I knew the magic that books held, and when I came to the United States and was regarded as alien by my classmates, books provided me with friends who helped me to understand myself and to have compassion for other people. So I urge everyone to read for your life–for enjoyment and knowledge and as a member of a family and a citizen not only of your community but of the world.”

Don’t forget to check  Borders out for their “Read 10 Books Get One Free” and get your children involved in reading this summer.

Also don’t forget about the giveaway that I am hosting where two people will each win a $100 Borders Gift Certificate. Enter to win here.

Borders and HarperCollins teamed up and provided me with a Borders gift card in exchange for my posting about the Double-Dog Dare Summer Reading Challenge.
